Nestled on historic Main Street in the small town of Columbia, IL. we are conveniently located just minutes outside of St. Louis, Mo. Built in 1866, the Abbey has a long and glowing history of servicing community and continues this tradition as a newly renovated event venue. Remodeled with craftsmanship to preserve the original architecture, the Abbey Morris cathedral ceilings and original stained glass with white -glove service and state-of-the art technology. The Abbey features many venue amenities to complement your event such as outdoor terrace and patio, private bridal suite, private grooms room parlor, coat room and private parking.

Brooke specializes in making your wedding day perfect. No job is too big or too small for this professional, as they want to help your milestone go smoothly in whatever way they can.

Your Event Coordinator is responsible for overseeing each step related to our event planning process. This includes meeting with vendors at the venue to help with set-up; collecting supplies, décor and rentals; and working with staff to ensure a successful event.  She will be your on-site contact throughout your event to ensure that everything goes according to plan

History

Main Street Abbey History Time Line.

  • 1863: Henry Schumacher Purchases Land

  • 1866: Construction of the church begins

  • 1873: The congregation completions after 7 years building themselves

  • 1874: First church building converted into school

  • 1904: Church undergoes remodeling and improvements

  • 1909:Addition of brick nave doubles size of church

  • 1927: Rectory fire causes loss of all church records

  • 1946: New Parish celebrates church centennial

  • 2016: Church restoration and renovations begin

  • 2018: Church renovation completed as Main Street Abbey
